Luminous Energy's Southam Solar Farm

Luminous Energy is preparing a planning application for a solar farm and battery storage facility on land at Bracon Ash to submit to South Norfolk Council

The proposed solar farm would be located on two fields north of School Lane and west of East Carleton Rd, Bracon Ash, NR14 8HJ. The fields are bounded to the west, east and north by a combination of hedgerows and woodland. The scheme will connect into the 33kV line that crosses the site and access is proposed along the existing track off East Carleton Rd.

The solar farm would have an approximate capacity of 24MW and cover 73 acres. It would generate an estimated 24,000 MWh of clean and renewable electricity each year. This is equivalent to the annual electrical needs of approximately 7,000 average homes.

A range of ecological enhancements are being considered as part of the application. These include, areas of wildflower and bird seed mix, bat and bird boxes and revitalisation of existing ponds to encourage pond life such as newts. The solar farm would have a significant positive net biodiversity impact.
