Diversification

Land with a solar installation can have dual use, allowing food production such as sheep grazing to coexist with energy generation, helping to secure a predictable income throughout the year.

Renting out land for a solar installation reduces reliance on turbulent agricultural commodity prices and ensures a long term guaranteed income. In return for leasing land to us, the landowner receives a generous annual rent (typically per acre of land occupied by the solar farm) that is linked to inflation and fixed for a period of 35-40 years.

Solar farms also have the added advantage of allowing the land to rest and regenerate. The reversible nature of the development also means they can easily be decommissioned and the land returned to its former agricultural use at the end of the tenancy, having benefited from being rested from intensive farming over the intervening years.

  • At least 70 acres of flat or slightly south-facing land
  • Proximity to 33kV-132kV power line or less than 3 miles from a primary substation
  • Minimal visibility from key public vantage points and heavily populated areas
  • Not be located within a flood zone (unless in an area benefiting from flood protection) or a Protected Area.

Land is not irreversibly developed when a solar farm is constructed – the panels are mounted on frames driven into the soil and these are removed at the end of its useful life.
